Symantec Alerts about Android Malware, said Android Smartphones are Vulnerable

Symantec - Android smartphones vulnerable to malware

Some of the best AntiVirus software for PC’s and smartphones is made by Symantec. When it comes to alert people about new threats, Symantec always do their best. For the Android platform Symantec provide a top AntiVirus solution, as well as AntiTheft and Online Family Safety solutions. Recently, the company has expressed concerns about the increasing number of malware attacks on smartphones. They claimed as smartphones becoming more and more popular the number of threats will increase and we are likely to face similar concerns as we do with our PC’s.

“The major mobile platforms have finally become ubiquitous enough to garner the attention of attackers, and as such, Symantec expects attacks on these platforms to increase,” Symantec Managing Director, Sales, India and SAARC, Anand Naik said.

Most attacks focus on using the SMS Premium services to steal money, spy and collect device and user data, send spam or monitor banking transactions. According to Symantec most of these threats targeting the most popular Android mobile OS. Users should know they can prevent these android malware attacks by verifying the apps they install, checking permissions and using only reliable services. Android is not the only platform targeted, other popular OS’s such as iOS, Symbian and BlackBerry are also subject to threats.

The new Sharp Aquos custom Android UI from frog is simply amazing (Video)

The new Sharp Aquos custom Android UI from frog is simply amazing (Video)

SHARP AQUOS Android UI design

While on European and global market Sharp hasn’t made quite an impression with their Aquos series of Android smartphones, in Japan their devices are some of the best the market has to offer. Great hardware, top camera sensors with Xenon flash and a great deal of features. Lately, Sharp has partnered with Frog to offer a custom interface for Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the Aquos lineup of devices. To describe the new interface I will use only one word: Amazing.

Remember those times when you felt that the custom skins that Samsung or HTC implement are cluttered and not so easy to understand, especially for the newcomers? Or when you had to install a third party lock screen replacement app to get all your shortcuts in there for quick access? Well, Sharp and Frog have thought of everything. They’ve taken the Android UI to a whole new level of customization and user experience. A photo speaks 1000 word but a video is lot more. Watch below the Demo of Sharp Aquos custom UI. It’s coming with the Sharp Aquos smartphones in Japan some time this year.

Fresh Android Apps for June 19: Zombies, Run!, MiHome Launcher, Highway Rider

Fresh Android Apps for June 19: Zombies, Run!, MiHome Launcher, Highway Rider

In today’s Fresh Apps, discover a new way to keep fit and avoid the zombie apocalypse at the same time. Zombies, Run! is a unique app that turns your regular fitness routine into a fun game. Also, we have MiHome Launcher, which gives non-rooted users the clean, crisp look and feel of the MIUI Android ROM. Finally, we’ve got Highway Rider, an adrenaline-infused motorbike racing game where riding fast and dangerously is positively encouraged.

It’s far from cheap at $7.99, but Zombies, Run! is such a neat idea, you may think its worth the cash outlay. Half-game, half-fitness app, Zombies, Run! is a sure-fire way to spice up your exercise regimen. You’ll not only get fitter and healthier (hopefully), you’ll also have a great deal of fun along the way and escape the zombie apocalypse.

The concept (which started life on iOS[1]) is simple: the app delivers a story straight to your headphones through orders and voice recordings, and when you get back home, you use the supplies you’ve collected while running to build and grow your base. It’s basically a lot like Runkeeper[2], but with an intriguing, undead twist. Stay motivated!

MIUI[3] has been a popular ROM for rooted Android devices for a while. But for those who can’t (or don’t want to) root their smartphones, MiHome Launcher is now available in Google Play. The launcher is easy to install, puts all your apps on your home screen and offers thousands of themes. In addition, MiHome supports 10 screens, offers some handy widgets and generally offers a clean launcher experience.

If you’ve been on the fence about rooting and using MIUI, perhaps MiHome Launcher will serve as a nice preview. While it only works with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), those on older versions need not fret. Fortunately, MiHome Launcher (Android 2.3)[4] lets you enjoy all the same features even if your device isn’t running Google’s latest OS.

Sometimes, the simplest games are the most fun, and if you’re looking for some addictive, high-octane motorbike action, check out Highway Rider. Don your crash helmet and get on your bike, then zoom down the open highway complete with nitrous canisters strapped to your ride for a little extra boost.

At first, there are only a few trucks and cars to pass, and the closer you drive to them, the bigger the points you score. As you drive farther, more and more vehicles need to be avoided and you’ll be weaving in and out of the lanes at ever-increasing speeds. Customize your rider with different colored outfits and collect gruesome photos of your majestic bone-crunching crashes when you fall.

Pace DJ matches your running speed to your playlist beat

Pace DJ matches your running speed to your playlist beat

Don’t you hate it when you are running along at a steady pace, a pace better than ever, and your playlist switches to a low key song? It’s never fun when your trusty running playlist messes with your pace mojo. PaceDJ Running App[1] for Android is the perfect cure for the running, walking or cycling playlist blues. This savvy music app matches songs to your personally selected pace.

The PaceDJ app starts off by scanning your device’s memory card for songs. The app matches the beat of the song to your tempo for the best blend of musical workout motivation. The app creates playlists for you based on the beats and allows you to give thumbs up or thumbs down on the selection to influence the mix.

Users can also “Measure your Pace” to find the right beat-per-minute for your workout. Then you can upload that personal pace to the PaceDJ.com[2] website for a suggested list of songs that match your pace. How fabulous is that? If you want to change your pace mid-workout, you can simply use the up or down arrows at anytime on the app’s main screen to change the tempo. The app is super easy to use while out on a run or bike ride.

If you are having trouble completing your runs these days, the Pace DJ app for Android might just be the motivation you need to get off the couch and pound some pavement.

Otello

Otello

Othello is a strategy board game for two players, played on an 8x8 board (similar to chess and checkers). There are 64 identical pieces called 'disks' (often spelled 'discs'), which are light on one side and dark on the otherâ€"physically with an actual set, or conceptually via computerâ€"to correspond with the opponents in a game. Othello starts with the center 4 squares of the board occupied with 2 black and 2 white pieces arranged diagonally. True Reversi starts with the board empty and the first 2 moves have to be played into the middle 4 squares with no captures. Thus Reversi can start with either a parallel or diagonal layout of the first 4 pieces. Typically computer versions start as per Othello but the name Othello was trade marked so they often call the game Reversi to avoid legal problems. The parallel opening has a very big influence on the game for experienced players but is seldom played. Reversi enthusiasts still play the parallel (or 'Reversi') opening as a variation to Othello. In most cases a game consists of placing all of these up to a full board, but exceptions occur if neither player has a legal move. Though the original rules of Reversi were such that each player was limited to using no more than half of the disks (those in possession at the start), this rule has long been out of common practice; and, if using a physical board and pieces, the player whose turn it is simply retrieves a disk that is in possession of the opponent as needed. This means that there is now only one way a player will pass (always involuntarily) rather than place a disk, while formerly there were two. Each player's objective is generally to have as many disks one's own color at the end as possible and for one's opponent to have as fewâ€"or, technically in consideration of the occasional game in which not all disks are placed, that the difference between the two should be as large as possible if the winner and as small as possible if the loser. However, simply winning is the basic goal, and maximizing the 'disk differential' is regarded as ancillary. (It may have more or less weight depending upon such things as tournament tiebreaks.)

Help protect your skin from sun damage with the nēvus Android app

Help protect your skin from sun damage with the nÄ"vus Android app

Sun tanning can be tricky these days. Knowing when to apply more SPF is a serious science. And, protecting yourself against skin cancer and watching out for new moles and old mole changes on your body can be exhausting and scary. The nÄ"vus[1] app for Android ($0.99) is a comprehensive skin care app to help protect you from the damaging rays of the sun we all love so much. nÄ"vus is aptly named after the technical term for mole, just in case you were wondering.

The first feature we love of the nÄ"vus app is the “Sun Alarm.” Set a sunscreen reminder on your phone for when you need to reapply. The app will also sync with your Android’s GPS to let you know what the current UV Index is so you know if you need to reapply more readily. The handy “Sunscreen Visualizer” helps you figure out how much sunscreen to apply to each body part as well as on the skin of delicate children. Within the “Sun Alarm” section is a ton of helpful sun-care tidbits such as skin type info, UV light details, treating sunburn and more.

An ingenious part of the nÄ"vus app lets you take and record photos of your skin for mole examination. The app describes in detail how to self examine your skin for changes in moles that could signal skin cancer. Of course, you should also go see your dermatologist yearly in addition to using the app. An app is not a doctor by any means.

Fresh Android Apps for June 20: Robin, Nexercise, Atmo

Fresh Android Apps for June 20: Robin, Nexercise, Atmo

Getting a bit of publicity this week is new Android voice assistant, Robin. Despite the inevitable comparisons to Siri on iOS, Robin actually offers a lot of handy features, especially while driving. Also new is Nexercise, which offers an exciting way to get motivated, lose weight and stay in shape. In games, check out Atmo, a real-time multiplayer space combat title which just got out of beta, and offers plenty of challenging 3-D gameplay

Another day, another Siri competitor. Is Robin a better voice assistant app than the many others in Google Play? Well, it’s free to try at least. You can ask Robin for directions, local places, real-time parking, traffic info, gas prices, weather, details of your Twitter feed and much more.

Robin is definitely focused on in-car usage, which sets its apart from many of its peers. With real-time gas prices and full navigation features, along with traffic details (similar to Waze[1]), Robin is definitely worth a look. It can even help you find a nearby parking space which could come in very handy if you’re driving in an unfamiliar city.

Nexercise aims to make losing weight and staying fit and healthy a bit more fun, as well as more permanent. It works by offering users plenty of motivation, often one of the biggest barriers for people hoping to lose weight.

The app tracks everyday things like walking or housework as “every little bit counts” activities which are encouraged. It also sets you challenges and goals. When you achieve these, you’re offered rewards, points and badges, so staying fit becomes a fun and enjoyable game rather than a chore. Invite your friends too, and track each other’s progress to stay motivated.

Atmo is a real-time multiplayer space combat title which plays a bit like “capture the flag” style games. You team up with a colleague and have to destroy opponents’ capsules, find their flag and return it to your goal. At the same time, you’ll need to defend your own flag and destroy your enemies should they attempt to make off with your flag.

Atmo looks like a fun and challenging game with nice 3-D graphics. It emerged out of beta only recently, so expect future enhancements and improvements down the line. For now, it’s free and definitely worth a look.

Samsung Galaxy Note II coming in October, More clues on Display with UBP Technology (Unbreakable Plane)

Samsung Galaxy Note II coming in October, More clues on Display with UBP Technology (Unbreakable Plane)

Galaxy Note II coming in October

A week ago we’ve reported that the successor of Samsung Galaxy Note as Galaxy Note II might be feature flexible display[1]. Now, more clues emerged that the device will sport a new Display with screen technology known as unbreakable plane, or UBP.

According to MK Business News, Samsung will improved Galaxy Note II in just about every way possible to compete with iPhone 5. Not only is the Note II rumored to include a quad-core processor, sturdier build, better battery life and Jelly Bean but it also will sport a unbreakable plane (UBP) display. This will allow to cut down some fat from the device and make it look lot slimmer by giving more space for the baseband core chip and application processor (AP).

The new display claimed as a precursor to the flexible display. To make it clear, UBP displays use a polymer film allowing for thinner and lighter components. If this info turns true, we may not see the actual flexible display on Galaxy Note II, but it will just bring  the possibility of flexible OMLED screen more closer.

Samsung is willing to relase a premium device to compete against Apple’s iPhone 5 which may arrive on the same period in October. Stay tuned with us at Facebook and Twitter, Google Plus to get updates on latest Android News, Apps, games and Live Wallpapers. Source[2][3][4][5]

Android App Video Review: One Epic Game

Android App Video Review: One Epic Game

One Epic Game[1] is a new auto-run platformer and the debut Android title from Grip Games. It has plenty of strong features, such as great art and music, but is it truly as epic as the name suggests? Well, no, not really. Some frustrating gameplay elements stand in the way of that, but it’s still definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of simple and fun games.

So this game has a story of some kind, in which you have to stop an evil scientist from taking over the world and such, and I think time travel is involved. It’s totally over the top and ridiculous and it aims to be very funny. I thought the comedy was very hit and miss myself, but it was still mostly amusing. This is a simple two button game in which you jump and shoot while automatically running to the right. It’s essentially the same as Halfbrick Studio’s Monster Dash, but with more variety and less polish. There’s a huge variety to the locations and enemies, and you’ll have to contend with zombies, soldiers, knights, dragons, aliens, and much more.

The campaign mode which tells said crazy story takes you from one locale to the next, giving you different mission objectives along the way, usually just to run a certain distance or kill a certain number of enemies. The way is littered with collectibles, from score multipliers to jetpacks and loads of different weapons. You’re rewarded with coins for doing well, and they can be spent on new free run levels, special challenges, or on single level perks to help you out if you’re having a difficult time. Even in the campaign, levels are randomly generated. This leads to tons of frustrating gameplay. It’s way too easy to get messed up by an unexpectedly short platform or a bad enemy spawn. You’ll likely repeat some levels multiple times, and it makes it hard to save up coins at any decent rate. Of course, you can buy more coins in-app.

The art is a feast for the eyes, with tons of diverse and bold, brightly colored environments. The soundtrack is fantastic, and is indeed epic in nature. There are several in-game awards to go for, plus OpenFeint Leaderboard and Achievement support. There are some bugs and small annoyances, like the lack of a back button on certain screens, but they’re mostly minor. It’s definitely worth downloading and trying in the end, especially considering it’s completely free.

Fresh Android Apps for June 18: My Xbox LIVE, Carat, Kinectimals

Fresh Android Apps for June 18: My Xbox LIVE, Carat, Kinectimals

Today’s Fresh Android Apps are brought to you by... Microsoft?! Yep, it’s true. Gamers can kick this week off with the official My Xbox LIVE app. Keep track of friends, achievements and the latest game releases. Also from Microsoft comes Kinectimals, the mobile version of the Xbox 360 Kinect title. Meanwhile, Android users looking to get better battery life out of their smartphones may want to try Carat and see if it can help.

Google Play has seen its fair share of knock-off and unofficial Xbox LIVE apps over the past few months, so it’s good to see the official version from Microsoft finally emerge. Of course, you can’t play games through it, but there’s still plenty on offer for all the Xbox 360 owners out there.

Via the app, you can track and compare your achievements, connect with your Xbox LIVE friends, and change/edit your 3-D avatar and profile. You can also see the latest game news and reviews, get tips and tricks for certain titles, message your friends, and much more. If you need to track your LIVE account wherever you are, this app’s for you.

Here’s an interesting concept which is still in beta, but worth a look nonetheless. While other apps out there can monitor which apps are using your battery, Carat claims to be the first to generate personalized recommendations on ways to improve battery life. Reviews are somewhat mixed in Google Play so far, but perhaps with more feedback from users the app will improve, and it sounds like it takes time to achieve results.

Open this free app every few days so it can send data to the Carat servers. Within time, it will start recommending actions and even predict the improvements you will see. Although Carat doesn’t measure energy use directly, it infers what apps are responsible using advanced machine learning methods.

The cute and cuddly motion-controlled baby animal-raising game has been a huge hit on the Xbox 360 Kinect, and Microsoft launched a mobile version on iOS[1] six months ago. Now Android gamers can join in with the fun using touchscreen controls to keep the little cubs happy.

Kinectimals also includes challenges for you to take part in. You’ll be teaching your cub tricks like sitting or jumping, and playing games with him. As you complete challenges, you’ll earn coins which you can spend to buy new things like different toys and other places where you can take him. If you already own Kinectimals on the Xbox 360, this app will let you unlock five new animals on your console.

LG Quick Voice introduced in Korea, Siri and S-Voice competitor from LG

LG Quick Voice introduced in Korea, Siri and S-Voice competitor from LG

LG launches its own Siri competitor in Korea

So, we have seen Siri on Apple iPhone 4s, then there is S-Voice on Samsung’s newest flagship model, the Galaxy SIII, (thanks to xda community, S-Voice ported to work on other smartphones[1]). Must we mention all the alternatives flooding on the Play Store that have most if not the same characteristics? LG didn’t want to be left behind with this type of interaction with the smartphone so they went ahead and implemented their own service called LG Quick Voice. What does it do? Pretty much everything S-voice can do on the Samsung Galaxy SIII[2]. It can answer your questions about weather, open apps, set reminders and alarms, search the web, make phone calls and few other things. Also, like its competitors, Quick Voice will offer search functionality for maps, weather, stocks, and web search. and all sorts of other things. LG’s virtual assistant will be available for the Optimus Vu and Optimus LTE 2[3] via software updates arriving in July that will also upgrade the devices to the new version of Android â€" Ice Cream Sandwich.

One X Wi-Fi problem acknowledged by HTC. Here is how to test if yours is OK (Video)

One X Wi-Fi problems acknowledged by HTC Even though it’s one of the best Android handsets money can buy, the HTC One X[1] has had its issues. The latest one is related to a hardware fault that causes weak Wi-Fi connectivity signal and constant connection drops. This One X Wi-Fi problem has been identified by the XDA community, they discover that it is indeed a hardware fault that’s causing the issues, as some believed that a software update will fix all the problems. HTC even released a patch to improve Wi-Fi connectivity for the AT&T users of the device a while back, but that didn’t fix the problem as a hardware fault cannot be fixed by mere software. Not all of the HTC One X devices are affected by this problem but those that have experienced the issues are expecting a fix from HTC. After alerting HTC about the problem, linking to the thread on XDA, AndroidCentral have obtained the official acknowledgement from HTC Europe. One X Wi-Fi problems acknowledged by HTC (Video) You need to know that the thread on XDA[2] also covers a fix it yourself guide to the Wi-Fi antenna problems that involves disassembling the device. There is also a method to test if your One X is affected. You need to “Gently squeeze the side back of your phone, between the camera lens and the volume buttons, if your WIFI signal strength improves only to drop back down when you stop squeezing then you have this seemingly common fault.“  Here is a short video demonstrating the issue:

Nexus 7 (Nexus Tablet), First Camera Sample surfaces on Picasa

Nexus 7, also known as the Nexus Tablet, makes its first appearance on Picasa

We know Google I/O is getting closer and we are counting days to hear the announcement of the most awaited Google Nexus Tablet. Now Hot in the web, first photo (camera sample) taken by upcoming Nexus Tablet just made its way to Picasa. The latest leaked photos on Picasa Web Abums shows the naming (rumours suggests Google Tablet will be Nexus 7) is accurate and the manufacturer is clearly stated as Asus. The two photos from the Nexus 7 were taken, according to the geo-tagging, in Google Building 44 and the resolution for the shots is 1280 x 960. Keep in mind that the EXIF data used to identify the photos can be faked. Prepare for Wimbledon tennis with these Android apps

Prepare for Wimbledon tennis with these Android apps

Although EURO 2012[1] and the NBA Finals are in full swing (and the upcoming London Olympics is grabbing most of the headlines), we would be well served to pay attention to Wimbledon 2012, which begins next week. The oldest and most regal Grand Slam tennis tournament is in its 126th magnificent year. Here are some free Android apps you will love to download to get ready for all the action.

There is no official Android Wimbledon app just yet, though one is promised on the official Wimbledon site[2]. So, until then and perhaps beyond, Wimbledon Grand Slam Tennis is a worthwhile download. The app is great for the tennis fanatic and features the latest news, scores, results, schedule and more. Though it’s not the official app, there is plenty of content here like photos, stats, player profiles and even a chat room.

Here is a nifty way to listen to a variety of live broadcasts from Wimbledon during the tournament itself. You can also catch up with Wimbledon podcasts featuring the players once matches are over. The app is a handy companion if you’re away from the computer or TV, as it also includes news, results, scores and match schedules so you know when to tune-in to listen to your favorite players in action.

Many Wimbledon fans enjoy tennis year-round, so here’s an app that will be useful once the tournament is done. ATP/WTA Live is the official app of the ATP World Tour and World Tennis Association and mainly concentrates on scores in real-time from all the big tennis tournaments worldwide. You’ll also find live stats, draws, rankings, player bios and more. While it doesn’t cover Grand Slam tournaments like Wimbledon, for tennis fans it still serves up an ace.

The United States Tennis Association is the governing body of tennis in the U.S. This official app allows everyone to access public and private content posted on the USTA’s Dartfish TV channel for free. You’ll get to see the professionals in action plus experts speaking on tennis-specific topics such as strength and conditioning, mental toughness and training. Players, parents and coaches should find a lot of value here â€" the route to Grand Slam glory at Wimbledon starts here!
