Symantec Alerts about Android Malware, said Android Smartphones are Vulnerable

Symantec - Android smartphones vulnerable to malware

Some of the best AntiVirus software for PC’s and smartphones is made by Symantec. When it comes to alert people about new threats, Symantec always do their best. For the Android platform Symantec provide a top AntiVirus solution, as well as AntiTheft and Online Family Safety solutions. Recently, the company has expressed concerns about the increasing number of malware attacks on smartphones. They claimed as smartphones becoming more and more popular the number of threats will increase and we are likely to face similar concerns as we do with our PC’s.

“The major mobile platforms have finally become ubiquitous enough to garner the attention of attackers, and as such, Symantec expects attacks on these platforms to increase,” Symantec Managing Director, Sales, India and SAARC, Anand Naik said.

Most attacks focus on using the SMS Premium services to steal money, spy and collect device and user data, send spam or monitor banking transactions. According to Symantec most of these threats targeting the most popular Android mobile OS. Users should know they can prevent these android malware attacks by verifying the apps they install, checking permissions and using only reliable services. Android is not the only platform targeted, other popular OS’s such as iOS, Symbian and BlackBerry are also subject to threats.

The new Sharp Aquos custom Android UI from frog is simply amazing (Video)

The new Sharp Aquos custom Android UI from frog is simply amazing (Video)

SHARP AQUOS Android UI design

While on European and global market Sharp hasn’t made quite an impression with their Aquos series of Android smartphones, in Japan their devices are some of the best the market has to offer. Great hardware, top camera sensors with Xenon flash and a great deal of features. Lately, Sharp has partnered with Frog to offer a custom interface for Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the Aquos lineup of devices. To describe the new interface I will use only one word: Amazing.

Remember those times when you felt that the custom skins that Samsung or HTC implement are cluttered and not so easy to understand, especially for the newcomers? Or when you had to install a third party lock screen replacement app to get all your shortcuts in there for quick access? Well, Sharp and Frog have thought of everything. They’ve taken the Android UI to a whole new level of customization and user experience. A photo speaks 1000 word but a video is lot more. Watch below the Demo of Sharp Aquos custom UI. It’s coming with the Sharp Aquos smartphones in Japan some time this year.

Fresh Android Apps for June 19: Zombies, Run!, MiHome Launcher, Highway Rider

Fresh Android Apps for June 19: Zombies, Run!, MiHome Launcher, Highway Rider

In today’s Fresh Apps, discover a new way to keep fit and avoid the zombie apocalypse at the same time. Zombies, Run! is a unique app that turns your regular fitness routine into a fun game. Also, we have MiHome Launcher, which gives non-rooted users the clean, crisp look and feel of the MIUI Android ROM. Finally, we’ve got Highway Rider, an adrenaline-infused motorbike racing game where riding fast and dangerously is positively encouraged.

It’s far from cheap at $7.99, but Zombies, Run! is such a neat idea, you may think its worth the cash outlay. Half-game, half-fitness app, Zombies, Run! is a sure-fire way to spice up your exercise regimen. You’ll not only get fitter and healthier (hopefully), you’ll also have a great deal of fun along the way and escape the zombie apocalypse.

The concept (which started life on iOS[1]) is simple: the app delivers a story straight to your headphones through orders and voice recordings, and when you get back home, you use the supplies you’ve collected while running to build and grow your base. It’s basically a lot like Runkeeper[2], but with an intriguing, undead twist. Stay motivated!

MIUI[3] has been a popular ROM for rooted Android devices for a while. But for those who can’t (or don’t want to) root their smartphones, MiHome Launcher is now available in Google Play. The launcher is easy to install, puts all your apps on your home screen and offers thousands of themes. In addition, MiHome supports 10 screens, offers some handy widgets and generally offers a clean launcher experience.

If you’ve been on the fence about rooting and using MIUI, perhaps MiHome Launcher will serve as a nice preview. While it only works with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), those on older versions need not fret. Fortunately, MiHome Launcher (Android 2.3)[4] lets you enjoy all the same features even if your device isn’t running Google’s latest OS.

Sometimes, the simplest games are the most fun, and if you’re looking for some addictive, high-octane motorbike action, check out Highway Rider. Don your crash helmet and get on your bike, then zoom down the open highway complete with nitrous canisters strapped to your ride for a little extra boost.

At first, there are only a few trucks and cars to pass, and the closer you drive to them, the bigger the points you score. As you drive farther, more and more vehicles need to be avoided and you’ll be weaving in and out of the lanes at ever-increasing speeds. Customize your rider with different colored outfits and collect gruesome photos of your majestic bone-crunching crashes when you fall.

Pace DJ matches your running speed to your playlist beat

Pace DJ matches your running speed to your playlist beat

Don’t you hate it when you are running along at a steady pace, a pace better than ever, and your playlist switches to a low key song? It’s never fun when your trusty running playlist messes with your pace mojo. PaceDJ Running App[1] for Android is the perfect cure for the running, walking or cycling playlist blues. This savvy music app matches songs to your personally selected pace.

The PaceDJ app starts off by scanning your device’s memory card for songs. The app matches the beat of the song to your tempo for the best blend of musical workout motivation. The app creates playlists for you based on the beats and allows you to give thumbs up or thumbs down on the selection to influence the mix.

Users can also “Measure your Pace” to find the right beat-per-minute for your workout. Then you can upload that personal pace to the PaceDJ.com[2] website for a suggested list of songs that match your pace. How fabulous is that? If you want to change your pace mid-workout, you can simply use the up or down arrows at anytime on the app’s main screen to change the tempo. The app is super easy to use while out on a run or bike ride.

If you are having trouble completing your runs these days, the Pace DJ app for Android might just be the motivation you need to get off the couch and pound some pavement.

Otello

Otello

Othello is a strategy board game for two players, played on an 8x8 board (similar to chess and checkers). There are 64 identical pieces called 'disks' (often spelled 'discs'), which are light on one side and dark on the otherâ€"physically with an actual set, or conceptually via computerâ€"to correspond with the opponents in a game. Othello starts with the center 4 squares of the board occupied with 2 black and 2 white pieces arranged diagonally. True Reversi starts with the board empty and the first 2 moves have to be played into the middle 4 squares with no captures. Thus Reversi can start with either a parallel or diagonal layout of the first 4 pieces. Typically computer versions start as per Othello but the name Othello was trade marked so they often call the game Reversi to avoid legal problems. The parallel opening has a very big influence on the game for experienced players but is seldom played. Reversi enthusiasts still play the parallel (or 'Reversi') opening as a variation to Othello. In most cases a game consists of placing all of these up to a full board, but exceptions occur if neither player has a legal move. Though the original rules of Reversi were such that each player was limited to using no more than half of the disks (those in possession at the start), this rule has long been out of common practice; and, if using a physical board and pieces, the player whose turn it is simply retrieves a disk that is in possession of the opponent as needed. This means that there is now only one way a player will pass (always involuntarily) rather than place a disk, while formerly there were two. Each player's objective is generally to have as many disks one's own color at the end as possible and for one's opponent to have as fewâ€"or, technically in consideration of the occasional game in which not all disks are placed, that the difference between the two should be as large as possible if the winner and as small as possible if the loser. However, simply winning is the basic goal, and maximizing the 'disk differential' is regarded as ancillary. (It may have more or less weight depending upon such things as tournament tiebreaks.)
